| Physical Description | A beanstalk of a young man standing a smidge over six feet, Shafin has a bit of an olive skin tone and a good complexion. His hair is best described as shaggy, overgrown, and unkempt. This is a purposely disheveled appearance, and he takes excellent care to maintain it. Often, he can ‘hide’ behind his bangs and keep his peculiarly large and somewhat pointed ears concealed. He is still early on in his education, but even at his age, he looks a bit younger than he is. It is his ears that give away his Vulcanoid heritage, but whether that comes from a Vulcan ancestor, Romulan one, or another species of Vulcanoid is something he does not disclose freely. Underneath his clothing, his body is a canvass of tattoos of old High Vulcan script. |

Personality & Traits
| General Overview | An introverted recluse to those who have not spent the energy and patience needed to ‘crack his shell,’ Shafin comes off as a bit of an isolationist and loner. Years of being bullied and picked on have caused Shafin to keep his guard up around strangers, and sadly it takes a great deal of time and trust building to melt the icy emotional barrier, a strange quirk to have on the pre-med track although Shafin views himself as more of a researcher (and hopefully an administrator) than a practitioner. He’s currently majoring in Psychology but has a dual minor in Nutrition and Health Sciences. He’s uncertain whether he wants to become a counselor or a physician. One of the strangest things about Shafin is that despite coming off as aloof and completely disengaged from social environments, his brain never shuts down. He is always analyzing people and searching for patterns of behavior. He is remarkably intuitive and sharply perceptive to the world around him, and the people living in it. Although he may seem quiet, shy, and unassuming, Shafin is vibrant, creative, and even imaginative internally. His internal monologues are like his own personal logs. Unfortunately, because he does not actively engage with others easily and is untrusting of new people and foreign places or situations, Shafin’s life can be a lonely one. He often has to keep himself company. He loves to invent stories and have conversations with himself in his own mind; Shafin is a daydreamer which as a result adds to peoples’ misconception that he’s completely ignoring them or aloof. Though part of his mind may wander mid-conversation, that Vulcanoid part of him is able to multi-task sufficiently. |

| Ambitions | Though he struggles with social interaction in groups, he can do alright with one-to-one conversation. Still, he is longing for finding someone that he can truly and soulfully connect with. He would like to find someone platonically or romantically that would help him feel less lonely and invisible. Primarily though, he wants to figure out his academic and career future: treating the body or the mind? Of course, there is always the everlasting pursuit to the answer of life itself. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Spirituality, faith, whatever one wants to call it, matters to Shafin. It is part of his heritage, and though he is from a very mixed family, he does his best to honor and respect his ancestors and family practices. Be it by going to a mosque or temple, Shafin makes it part of his normal daily routine. Aboard a starship with a nondenominational prayer room or chapel, he will seek guidance and refuge there during troubling times. His quarters are equally devoted to this with religious artifacts and iconography. | Personal History | Born along the Mediterranean Sea in the city of Sidon, Shafin is accustomed to having people refer to him as 'Vulcan' because of his facial features, predominately his ears which do have a bit of a point that indicates Vulcanoid heritage. That; however, is something he prefers not to discuss with strangers as it is not something that he knows too much about. He has studied the Vulcan culture out of curiosity and at times his own introverted personality mimics it to some extent, but a true Vulcan who followed the teachings of Surak would not be as cynical nor sarcastic as Shafin is. He does come from a mixed home though neither of his parents are Vulcans. The ears are a genetic trait passed down through his father's side of the family, but they have not been able to trace it back to an ancestor. Both of Shafin's parents are religious, but from different ancient religions from Earth. His father, Judaism, and his mother Islam. Shafin does not consider himself religious though he would concede to spiritual. Always an academic, he sees the value in religion even in the 24th century, but acknowledges their faults and flaws. He would rather remain impartial, and pave his own way. As such, he dove deeply into various religions from Earth and other worlds as well as philosophical teachings such as those of Surak of Vulcan. Parts of his body are inked with ancient Vulcan script though he tends to keep his tattoos hidden from prying eyes, and not where people can easily see them. Extremely devoted to his academics, Shaffin has quickly risen to be near the top of his class at Starfleet Academy. His primary filed of study is Psychology, preparing him for service as a Starfleet Counselor. Although, he is also minoring in Nutrition and Health Sciences because he is not fully committed yet to being a counselor. Part of him is keeping an open mind and looking at continuing into Starfleet Medical for additional education to become a physician instead. |
